This pomegranate lemonade recipe has a double dose of pom-flavor thanks to freshly made pomegranate juice and a homemade grenadine syrup. Add in lemon juice and BAM! You’ve got a lemonade that’s super seasonal and ready to shine. As a bonus I’m including a single serve recipe AND a pitcher recipe, because a party of one is still a party worth going to. 😎

My newsletter subscribers told me loud and clear, they want LEMONADE recipes! And I get it— it’s refreshing and nostalgic, and sometimes you want a little more than water but a little less than a martini. 😅 I mean, my Italian Limonata soda is consistently a top recipe on the blog for a reason! But in America we do tend to prefer still over sparkling, so here I am with another seasonal lemonade recipe for you.

Want even more options? I don’t blame you! Check out this springtime blueberry lemonade recipe, or this tropical passionfruit lemonade variation! As always, I love using infused simple syrups to add flavor and sweetening at the same time, because two birds, one stone, right???

why this pomegranate lemonade recipe works:

🍓 layers of flavor. Unlike other lemonade recipes that simply add juice for flavor, this seasonal sipper is flavored with an infused syrup AND fresh juice. That means we are upping the flavor intensity big time

🍋 peak-season fresh. Both pomegranates AND lemons are at peak season in winter, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the best of both flavor wise!

🙌 party perfect. You can make a whole pitcher of this lemonade so you’re set for a party or a few days of having a special lil treat just for yourself.

🛒 ingredients

A labeled ingredient shot of the ingredients used to make a pomegranate lemonade.
  • pomegranate juice – I know it’s annoying to hear “fresh is best” over and over, but I know that if you’re the kind of person who is seeking out seasonal recipes, you probably want to experience the best flavor possible in your recipes. Because of this, pleeeease promise me you will juice your own pomegranates, okay?! You’ll need about 1.5 pomegranates to get enough juice for this recipe.
  • pomegranate simple syrup – I bet you were wondering what the heck to do with an extra half of a pomegranate, right??? Juice it and make a half batch of this homemade grenadine syrup recipe! Yes, that’s right, grenadine is pomegranate flavored!!!
  • lemon juice – like the pomegranate juice, take the extra time to freshly squeeze your lemons. This means you’re getting pure, fresh, and zesty lemon flavor without anything else added. As with the pomegranate juice, store bought lemon juice is usually from concentrate.
  • filtered water – the last ingredient in this special beverage is plain old filtered water. Make sure it is filtered though, because you don’t want to add any funky flavors to your hard-earned lemonade.

💡tips & tricks for getting it right

🍽️ serving tips

  • light bites – pair with small bites, fresh fruit platters, or sharable appetizers like hummus or creamy ricotta dip and homemade focaccia crisps or pita chips.
  • as a mocktail – perfect for brunch spreads or any gathering as a non-alcoholic beverage option!
  • garnish – add fresh pomegranate arils and thin lemon wheels to make it extra special.

ℹ️ troubleshooting tips

  • too bitter – if you’ve gotten some pith in the juice it could result in a bitter flavor. You can add more syrup to balance it out!
  • too sweet or too tart – start with less syrup than you think you need, you can always add more if it’s not sweet enough. If your lemonade is too tart, you can add a few drops of saline solution to help balance the acidity out.
  • cloudy appearance – sediment is normal for freshly squeezed juice. For crystal clear lemonade, double strain both the pomegranate and lemon juices through a fine-mesh strainer and cheesecloth or paper coffee filter.

⚖️ scaling tips

You can make a single serving of this drink OR a whole pitcher for a party!

🔆 top tip

Make sure to strain all of the ingredients before mixing them so there are no bits of pomegranate or lemon in your final drinks!

♻️ how to customize your grenadine lemonade

  • bottled pomegranate juice – don’t have the patience for the processing of fresh pom juice? It’s okay! You can use store-bought juice in this lemonade.
  • classic simple syrup – you can swap the grenadine for classic syrup if you don’t have the time to make your own.
  • add herbs – garden fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, and basil would add a wonderful herbaceous flavor to this drink!

🧰 equipment needed & storage tips

  • citrus juicer – I love using an electric juicer for processing lemons because it’s so quick compared to other methods! You can also use a citrus press.
  • fine mesh strainer – choose a stainless steel or other non-reactive metal strainer for straining out any pulp or seeds. Pomegranate juice and lemon juice are both very acidic, so they can cause aluminum strainers to create a metallic flavor in the lemonade.
  • kitchen scale or measuring cup – this will help you get the right balance of flavors in your lemonade!
  • pitcher – a large pitcher is perfect for mixing and serving.
  • long spoon – a cocktail stirring spoon or other long handled serving spoon will help stir the lemonade together in the pitcher.

🫙 storing homemade lemonade

Store this pomegranate lemonade in an airtight container or pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 5 days for the best taste. You can also freeze your lemonade into ice cubes to use in other drinks like cocktails and iced tea!

💬 q+a

Can I use store-bought pomegranate juice?

Yes, you can use store-bought pomegranate juice, though fresh juice will give you the best flavor. If using store-bought, look for 100% pure pomegranate juice without added sweeteners.

Can I make flavored lemonade ahead of time for a party?

Yes! This lemonade can be made up to 5 days in advance when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Just give it a good stir before serving as some separation may occur.

Can I turn this into a cocktail?

Absolutely! This pomegranate lemonade makes an excellent mixer. Try it with vodka, gin, or prosecco for a festive drink. You can also use it in mocktails by adding sparkling water for some fizz.
