After over a decade of making cocktails at home, I’ve learned some seriously fun ways to easily level up your drinks. While I first started using simple syrups in baking and pastry school, it turns out that using fruit-infused simple syrups is a quick and easy way to create completely new cocktails in a flash. This blackberry daiquiri recipe brings the deep, sweet, and jammy flavor of juicy blackberries to a classic rum cocktail using homemade blackberry simple syrup.
This delicious cocktail recipe was inspired by my blackberry simple syrup recipe, which brings the berry flavor in full force. Instead of using regular simple syrup, a fruit-infused one lends flavor and sweetness, which is a key component of this rum-based cocktail.

🛒 ingredients
- blackberry simple syrup- take the time to whip up a batch of this blackberry simple syrup; trust me! This syrup adds sweetness and a burst of blackberry flavor, taking this cocktail to the next level. It also adds a deep purple hue to the drink, which is extra fun!
- white rum - choose a good quality rum for your drinks. Daiquiris only have a few ingredients in them, so quality definitely matters! Opt to go for Bacardi Silver or Plantation White rum.
- lime juice - freshly squeezed lime juice is an essential ingredient in a classic daiquiri. While it is tempting, do not use store-bought juice, and take the time to squeeze your juice fresh.
- blackberries - you’ll need some fresh blackberries for the garnish of this drink, which also serves as a flavor cue for your guests!
- ice - yes, yes. Fresh ice is on the ingredient list! 😛 The ice for this recipe will all go into the cocktail shaker, so be sure to choose a larger ice cube size, not crushed ice. Larger-sized ice will not dilute as quickly in the cocktail shaker.
optional ingredient:
- saline solution - a homemade saline solution is my favorite extra special secret weapon on the bar cart. Adding just 5 drops to your cocktails can help to balance the flavors and let the flavors really pop.
See the recipe card for exact quantities.

💡tips and tricks for getting it right
🍽️ serving tips
garnish
- This cocktail is garnished with three blackberries skewered on a cocktail pick.
- For extra flair, stash your skewered berries in the freezer for up to an hour before serving your drinks. When you pull them out of the freezer, they’ll develop a magical frostiness that will have a great wow factor! 🤩
For the garnish: Skewer three fresh blackberries on a cocktail pick, and place it in the freezer for at least 15 minutes if you want them to be frosty.
Chill your glass: Chill your coupe glasses by either placing them in the freezer or filling them with ice. (If you fill them with ice, be sure to remove the ice before serving your cocktails.)
ℹ️ troubleshooting tips
Even though this drink only has 3 ingredients, things can go awry. Try these troubleshooting tips if your cocktail doesn’t taste quite right.
- too sour - fresh citrus is notorious for varying in flavor. If your drink is too sour, try adding a few drops of saline solution to balance out the sour flavor. If you're using fresh blackberries instead of the blackberry simple syrup, your drink could end up being more sour. Fresh berries tend to be more tart and less jammy than ones that have been cooked.
- too sweet - if your daiquiri is too sweet, you have a couple of options for balancing out the flavor. You can add more lime juice or you can add a few extra drops of saline solution.
- too strong - daiquiris are a notoriously strong drink, so if you’d prefer a less potent potion, you can cut the amount of rum by half.
🔆 top tip
Be sure to give your cocktail a taste before pouring it while serving— you can always adjust flavors slightly before serving, but it’s challenging to change the flavors after your pour drinks into the glass.
♻️ substitutions & variations
♻️ substitutions
Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!
- fresh blackberries instead of syrup - if you don’t have the blackberry simple syrup on hand, you can make this drink by muddling 4-5 fresh blackberries with simple syrup, lime juice, and rum. Check the recipe card for this substitution!
🎛️ variations
Feeling like a rebel?! 😈 Feel free to stray from the recipe card using these variations, or leave me a comment with your own!
- herbs- muddle fresh mint leaves or basil leaves with the blackberry simple syrup, white rum, and lime juice to add a hint of minty freshness or herbaceous basil to the daiquiri. Garnish your drinks with a fresh mint or basil to play up the flavor factor!
- frozen - Instead of shaking it with ice in a cocktail shaker, you can make this cocktail into a classic frozen daiquiri! Pour all the ingredients into the jar of a blender and blending it with a cup of ice.
🧰 equipment needed
- cocktail shaker - you’ll need a quality cocktail shaker for mixing your daiquiris. I love using this cocktail shaker from Elevated Craft because it is easy to measure liquids in the lid of the shaker. It’s also double-walled, meaning your hands don’t get cold while shaking your cocktails!
- cocktail strainer - a cocktail strainer is a miniature fine mesh strainer that’s made specifically for straining cocktails. It seems a little extra, but trust me, it’s worth the investment if you’re making lots of drinks at home. It’s especially necessary for this drink because it helps strain out any stray blackberry particles.
- cocktail glass - a small coupe glass is the traditional cocktail glass of choice for a daiquiri. You can also use a small martini glass, or a Nick & Nora glass.
- measuring beakers or jigger - I prefer using these OXO measuring beakers instead of jiggers because you can use them for so many more recipes aside from drinks. They come in a graduated set perfect for measuring small amounts of liquid.
💬 q+a
Do I need to use fresh lime juice in this recipe?
Yes. Since there are so few ingredients in this cocktail, it’s best to use the freshest ingredients you can find.
Can I make this recipe without blackberry simple syrup?
Yes! Check out the recipe card for a variation on this recipe using fresh blackberries instead of blackberry simple syrup. Your drink will not have the same deep and jammy flavor. It may be sour or bitter, because fresh berries can be sour.

Notes
Recipe Notes:
Fresh blackberries tend to be more sour than ones that have been heated, like with the blackberry simple syrup. If you choose to make this drink with fresh blackberries, you may want to add more saline solution OR more simple syrup.Serving Notes:
Daiquiris are small in volume, usually about 5 ounces or less. Opt to use a small glass instead of a large volume one, which can make the drink look dinky. 😅Nutrition Information
