This blueberry latte recipe is a fun way to mix up your morning coffee routine during berry season! It's made using freshly brewed espresso and a homemade blueberry syrup, and the best part is you can make it hot or iced!
I love making this latte when blueberries are in peak season, from April through October. You can always tell because they're on sale at the grocery store! I also prefer to enjoy my lattes over ice, with a cold foam that’s been infused with homemade blueberry simple syrup. Don’t worry, if you prefer hot lattes I’ve got you covered in the recipe card below! 😉

💕 why this blueberry latte recipe works…
🫐 balanced flavor. Using a blueberry simple syrup adds tons of balanced blueberry flavor without having to muddle fresh berries, which are harder to balance in flavor.
🤑 cost-effective. Going out for fancy lattes adds up in price. Making them at home can save upwards of $5.00 each time!
🎛️ customizable. Crafting this drink to your exact preferences means you get your coffee just how you like it. Hot or cold, robust or light, the choice is yours!
🛒 ingredients
- blueberry simple syrup - infused simple syrups are perfect for using in drinks because they add a balanced sweetness that is also full of flavor. Sometimes fresh fruits like blueberries can vary in taste, being sweet or tart, so creating a syrup helps to ensure that the flavor is uniform!
- espresso - espresso is the best choice for creating coffee beverages like lattes because it’s bold in taste and holds up to a mixture of flavors.
- milk - I like to use dairy milks in my lattes because I prefer the rich taste, but you can also use non-dairy milks, too. Milks that are higher in fat content will create a denser richer foam.
optional ingredients
- blueberries - fresh berries are great for garnishing your drinks!
- ice - choose the best quality ice you can for your iced lattes. Pure ice made of filtered water is best for keeping the flavor clean.
- saline solution for drinks- homemade saline solution is NOT the same as a saline solution you buy in the drugstore. This liquid salt mixture helps to balance acidity and sweetness in drinks, two components that are present in flavored lattes!

💡tips & tricks for getting it right
🍽️ serving tips
Choose your glass
- capacity - You can use whatever glasses you have on hand, just be sure to choose one that can hold at least 8 ounces because the ice will melt a little when you add the espresso.
- heat-safe glasses for hot lattes- If you're making the drink hot, be sure to use a heat-safe glass. Unfortunately a lot of super cute and trending glassware isn't heat-safe.
Garnish
- fresh berries - I love garnishing this drink with fresh berries on a cocktail pick. You can also pop the skewered berries in the freezer for 15 - 30 minutes. When you take them out of the freezer, you’ll have a nice frost on the berries!
- dehydrated berries - you can crush freeze dried berries or dehydrated berries into a powder, then sprinkle the powder across the top of the drink. You can also rim the glass with the dried berries!
ℹ️ troubleshooting tips
- not enough flavor - if you want MOAR blueberry flavor, you can add as much syrup as you like. I prefer anywhere from 1-2 ounces of simple syrup to keep my coffee balanced in flavor.
- too sweet or acidic - if your lattes balance is off, you can use a homemade saline solution to help balance out the flavor. Salt in drinks works pretty similarly to salt in foods, allowing the flavor of the berries and coffee to shine through.
- not enough foam - if you can’t get your milk to froth, there could be several reasons for this. The milk might not be cold enough to make cold foam, or the fat content of the milk could be affecting the frothiness. The good news is that your drink will still taste great, even if you can’t quite nail the appearance.
♻️ substitutions & variations

Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!
- non-dairy milk - you can use non-dairy milks like almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk if you prefer. A non-dairy milk won’t froth as nicely as dairy milk does because of the ratio of fat to protein in the milks, but some brands nowadays make special “barista blends” that are good for foaming.
- cold brew concentrate - if you don’t have a way to make espresso at home, you can also use cold brew concentrate in place of espresso. You’ll want to use anywhere from 2 to 4 ounces, depending on the strength of the coffee.
- babyccino - skip the espresso and serve this latte “steamer” style using just frothed milk and blueberry syrup. This is a kid friendly variation, and it’s also great for people who don’t drink coffee but want to join in at brunch!
🧰 equipment needed & storage tips
🧰 tools needed
- espresso machine - you'll need an espresso machine or espresso maker to brew your coffee at home. You don't need to spend $1,000 on a machine to get good espresso at home, though I have and love our Breville Barista Pro. 😅 I have used Nespresso makers in the past and have friends who swear by them, too!
- handheld milk frother - this handheld frother is super convenient when making homemade coffee beverages. It’s a quick and easy way to whip up a cold foam for one!
- measuring glass for creating foam - you'll need a measuring or mixing glass for frothing the cold foam. If you're making a hot latte, you'll need a way to steam the milk, instead.
- drinking glass - use whatever glass you have on hand for your iced latte, just be sure it can hold at least 8 - 10 ounces.
🫙 storage tips
Drink your latte shortly after making it because of the addition of a milk-based foam.
The ingredients don’t hold up well to long-term storage, but you can store it for up to 24 hours in the fridge in an airtight container. Just be aware that the foam will dissipate as it is stored.
