This collection of pumpkin mocktails and pumpkin cocktails for fall is the perfect recipe roundup to keep you inspired throughout PSL season, so you can enjoy pumpkin beverages well into winter! After all, pumpkins are in season much longer than just October, so let’s give them the credit they deserve! 🎃
After over a decade of making homemade beverages, you tend to catch on to a trend or two. Pumpkin spice is a flavor that is here to stay, whether you love it or simply tolerate it. Me? I’m a BIG fan of pumpkin spice flavor, but I prefer to make my simple syrups from scratch so I know exactly what’s in them.

🎃 all about pumpkin ingredients
It’s easy to get overwhelmed during peak pumpkin season, because it seems like there’s a new product popping up every week during the fall! Here are the basic ingredients to know about during pumpkin spice season:
- sugar pumpkins or pie pumpkins – these pumpkins are the best for roasting when making homemade pumpkin purée, because they’re higher in sugar content so they caramelize when roasted. If you’ve never made your own pumpkin purée, it’s worth trying! You’ll likely never be able to use canned purée again.
- canned pumpkin puree – most brands of canned pumpkin puree are made from a dense, slightly sweet type of pumpkin known as the Dickinson pumpkin. The variety is named after Elijah Dickinson, who is credited with bringing the seeds from Kentucky to Illinois for cultivation. It’s more closely related to butternut squash than carving pumpkins, which can be less than ideal for eating.
- pumpkin pie filling – this is also a canned pumpkin mix that is combined with sugar and spices, so it’s ready to fill pie crusts with. In most cases, it’s not advisable to use pumpkin pie mix unless a recipe specifically calls for it.
- pumpkin spice – while you can get pumpkin spice premade at the store, it’s always more flavorful to make it yourself. Plus, then you can customize it to your liking! Usually, pumpkin spice mixes contain a variety of the following spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, allspice, cloves, and sometimes even white or black pepper!
