This honey lavender latte recipe adds a layer of floral fun to your morning caffeine fix! It’s made using homemade honey lavender syrup and freshly brewed espresso. It’s truly a morning ritual worth slowing down for!

Growing up with a live-in Italian immigrant grandmother means you make certain parts of Italian culture part of your daily life, like espresso. Even though Italians take their espresso very seriously, my grandma also impressed the importance of having fun. 🛒 ingredients
- espresso – The base of any good latte. You’ll need a double shot of espresso for each drink you make.
- milk – this recipe uses dairy milk, specifically whole milk, because it foams the best. However, you can use whichever milk you prefer.
- lavender honey simple syrup – This is the star of the show. The syrup infuses the latte with a sweet and delicate floral flavor that makes this beverage truly special. Take the time to make this recipe here for the best tasting coffee experience. Trust me! 😘
- ice – Yes! Ice is an ingredient, especially if you’re making your lattes cold! Choose your favorite ice, and keep in mind that smaller cubes will melt faster than large ones.

💡tips & tricks for getting it right
🍽️ serving tips
How and when to serve your lavender lattes:
- This is the perfect coffee beverage to serve to guests at a breakfast or brunch. It looks like it took a lot of work to make, but only you will know it truly took just a little effort. 😌
- It’s a great way to celebrate springtime weather with it’s floral flavor. It’s also the perfect coffee to serve a mom or mother figure for mothers day breakfast in bed!
Choose your glass
- You’ll need a glass that holds at least 8 ounces for each drink you make.
- You can use a rocks glass, a highball glass, or a double-walled glass to serve this beverage.
Garnish
Garnishes are wonderful flavor cues to your guests, and they take the presentation over the top.
- culinary grade flowers – Make sure you are using culinary grade lavender that is specifically safe for consumption. Not all flowers are grown and harvested equal, and ones that are decorative are not safe for eating or drinking. You can find lavender buds and lavender sprigs that are culinary grade at local specialty food grocery stores or online storefronts!
ℹ️ troubleshooting tips
While a homemade latte seems super straightforward, there are a few ways things can go wrong. Try these troubleshooting tips if you end up with a less-than-tasty latte.
- milk won’t froth – Make sure to use a milk that has a higher fat content for the best foaming. Non-fat milk will foam up, but the air bubbles will be bigger, so it will also break down faster. Non-dairy milks like oat milk can foam, but others don’t foam at all. The good news is: the drink is still delicious whether your milk foams or not.
- not enough lavender honey flavor – you can add in more syrup to the milk to get a more intense lavender honey flavor, or you can drizzle extra syrup on top of your lattes.
⚖️ scaling tips
This recipe can easily be scaled up if you’re serving this delicious latte to a crowd! You can make a large batch of espresso ahead of time and allow it to chill in the fridge. Then, you can whip up a large batch of lavender honey foam in a blender to serve everyone at the same time!
🔆 top tip
Use a milk with a higher fat content for the best foaming. A hand frother, like this one, is a wonderful way to get barista quality foams at home!
♻️ substitutions & variations
♻️ substitutions
Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!
- non-dairy milk – you can make this latte using your milk of choice like oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk. Keep in mind that some non-dairy milks don’t froth as well as others, and you may need to use a specific barista blend of milk to get it light and foamy.
- cold brew concentrate or strong coffee – if you don’t have a way to make espresso at home, you can use strongly brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate. You can also use instant espresso if you’re in a pinch!
- store-bought syrup – if you don’t have the time to make your own homemade lavender honey syrup, you can use a store-bought variety. The flavor may be from natural or artificial flavoring, not real lavender, so be sure to check the label!
🎛️ variations
Feeling like a rebel?! 😈 Feel free to stray from the recipe card using these variations, or leave me a comment with your own!
- frappé style – blend the espresso and ice in a blender, then top with the whipped lavender foam for a frozen beverage! You can also make this drink using frozen espresso ice cubes!
- matcha – swap out the shots of espresso for matcha for a matcha lavender latte!
- babyccino – skip the espresso shots and serve this homemade latte “steamer” style using just frothed lavender-infused milk. This is a kid friendly variation, and it’s also great for people who don’t drink coffee but want to join in at brunch!
🧰 equipment needed & storage tips
🧰 tools needed
- espresso maker – espresso makers can range from $20 to over $1,000 so there’s a lot of wiggle room depending on your budget. I have (and love) the Breville Barista Pro espresso machine, but I also like using the Bialette stainless steel stovetop espresso maker for coffee recipes. Note: I opt for the stainless steel over the aluminum because aluminum can impart a metallic taste when preparing very acidic foods, and coffee is pretty acidic.
- handheld milk frother – this handheld frother is super convenient when making homemade coffee beverages. It’s a quick and easy way to whip up a cold foam for one!
- drinking glass – use whatever glass you have on hand for your latte. If you are looking for a fun glass, check out this bubble glass as seen in my photos!
- straw – I love using these short GIR silicone straws for all my at-home cocktails, mocktails, and coffee beverages! They wash up nice, don’t stain or absorb flavors, and come in so many fun colors!
🫙 storage tips
Like most beverages, it is best to consume this drink shortly after making it. You can store it in the fridge if you’re unable to drink the whole thing (or if you forget where you put it until 3pm like I am known to do…#ADHD 😅), but don’t store it for more than 48 hours.
💬 q+a
Do I need to make the lavender honey simple syrup for this recipe?
Yes! The homemade syrup has a flavor that is soooo much better than anything store bought, mainly because it’s made with REAL lavender and honey, not natural or artificial flavoring.
Can I use cold brew instead of espresso?
Of course! You can use cold brew or cold brew concentrate instead of espresso for this latte! You can even use instant coffee.
What does a lavender honey latte taste like?
When prepared at home, this latte has a delicately sweet and floral flavor thanks to the lavender honey simple syrup. At your local coffeehouse, it can have a strong artificial or soapy lavender taste, which is why homemade is always best!
