Your next happy hour is about to get upgraded with 100% agave tequila, fresh pomegranate juice, and homemade grenadine. The flavor it delivers is the perfect balance of sweet-tart for a cocktail. not syrupy, sour, or sad. Yeah. It’s GOOD.

After over 10 years of making drinks at home, I’ve decided that margaritas are pretty much the best cocktail ever, being both refreshing and easy to customize into seasonal creations. This margarita is a seasonal take on my classic silver tequila margarita. It’s fresh, flavorful, and tastes like it came straight from a bougie cocktail bar, except it didn’t cost you $19.
Planning a holiday party (or just a Tuesday happy hour)? 👀 Pair this drink with a platter of appetizers, like an easy honey ricotta dip, and homebaked sourdough toasts for a party that no one will soon forget. If you’re a fan of pomegranate and you like margaritas, then you’re about to have a new favorite cocktail. 😎
👀 the secret sauce…
✨ the flavor: This recipe hits The Pop and The Balancing Act, playing up perfectly paired notes of sweet, citrusy, and tart with a secret mixology trick: homemade saline solution!
🎯 the method: Prep any ingredients you need (like homemade grenadine!) and then juice your citrus, combine the ingredients, shake, strain, and serve!
🏆 the win: You get a gorgeous seasonal margarita with REAL pomegranate flavor instead of a sad fake flavored concoction. Bonus? It’s perfect for serving at holiday parties during peak pomegranate season!

💡tips & tricks for getting it right
ℹ️ troubleshooting tips
- too sour or bitter – Fresh citrus juice can be pretty acidic, so if your cocktail has a bit of a bite, try adding one to three drops more of saline solution to balance flavors out
- weak pomegranate flavor – Using both fresh pomegranate juice and homemade pomegranate syrup creates a deeper, more complex flavor than using just one or the other.

♻️ customize your margaritas
- store-bought pomegranate juice – if you can’t find fresh pomegranates and still wanna make this drink, it’s totally possible! Just make sure to use high-quality pomegranate juice that ONLY has pomegranate as the single ingredient. Store-bought juices are also normally made from concentrate, so the color of your margarita might be darker.
- orange liqueur alternatives – you can substitute with Grand Marnier or triple sec for Cointreau. Each brings a slightly different orange note, but they’ll all work well in the recipe. You can also add in a splash of home-infused pomegranate cordial, too!
🍽️ how to serve your pom margaritas
- appetizers – When most people think of chips and guacamole or chips and queso to partner with margaritas, this seasonal libation pairs really well with appetizers like a honey whipped ricotta, or even a fancier arugula and feta salad.
- big batch – Margaritas are ✨perfect pitcher cocktails✨ because you can mix everything up before your guests arrive and then have a big batch of cocktails ready to go.
- frozen – Prefer a frozen margarita instead of one on the rocks? Freeze your pomegranate juice and lime juice and prep the ingredients in a blender. It’ll be delicious without being watered down.
