Sharing is caring!

A few years ago, word hit the street that a peeps soda pop was coming to market. Sadly, Pepsi did it wrong. We don’t need a Peeps flavored cola. We need a PEEPS FLAVORED SODA POP. Peeps. Soda. Full stop. THIS is the recipe you need to make your own Peeps soda at home using a Peeps simple syrup and the bubbly water of your choice. And the best part is, you can enjoy peeps during more holidays than Easter. 🐣

Two glasses of homemade Peeps soda pop sit on a counter.

I’ve been working with infused simple syrups since I was in baking and pastry school, and one of my favorite uses for them is making soda at home. Making homemade soda pop is easier than you think, all you need is a flavored syrup and bubbly water— you actually do not need a soda stream, but if you want to live your best deluxe appliance life, GO FOR IT! 😎

This soda uses homemade Peeps syrup to add sweet and delicate marshmallow flavor, and you can even add whipped cream, heavy cream, or milk to make it an Italian soda! Serve this drink with a party-sized bowl of popcorn, a tray of pizza dough pretzel bites, or sweet spiced mixed nuts for the perfect start to any get-together!

why this Peeps Soda recipe works:

🍭 nostalgic. Whether you love them or hate them, you’ve got to admit that these sweet marshmallow candies bring a heavy dose of childhood nostalgia! This soda is an updated way to enjoy that flavor, without chomping on a literal sugar-coated marshmallow.

🙌 easy. Whip up a batch of peeps syrup and you’re ready to enjoy peeps-flavored drinks all week long!

🥳 fun. Move over cake-garnished milkshakes! This soda is the perfect party pop and it’s sure to wow your guests, without spending the afternoon decorating elaborately garnished glassware.

🛒 ingredients

A labeled ingredient shot of the ingredients used to make a Peeps soda pop.
  • Peeps simple syrup – this fun and easy Peeps syrup is the key to the peeps flavor in this soda, so you’ll need to make a batch. It’ll take you about 30-45 minutes to whip up if you don’t already have it on hand!
  • bubbly water – I like using a plain seltzer water or sparkling water for homemade soda, because it’s unflavored and doesn’t contain any added minerals or salt like club soda does.
  • Peeps – a single Peep candy is the perfect garnish for this soda! Choose a color that matches your syrup or switch it up to keep things colorful.
  • whipped cream – while optional, I love including whipped cream on soda pop recipes because it transforms the drink as you drink it. This creates a fun experience AND a treat, all in one!
  • ice – ice is a VERY important part of your drink recipes! If your ice has a funky flavor, your drink will, too. I like using pebble ice for soda, you can also use crushed ice if you are normal and don’t have specific ice for specific drinks like I do. 😅

💡tips & tricks for getting it right

🍽️ serving tips

  • holiday mocktail – this is a super fun soda to make with kids as a mocktail for a holiday celebration where Peeps pop up, like Easter, Halloween, or Christmas!
  • grown-up soda – spike your soda with peeps-infused vodka for a grown-up treat!

ℹ️ troubleshooting tips

  • not enough flavor – peeps are delicately flavored, so if you find that you need more Peeps taste, you can add more syrup 1/2 ounce at a time.

⚖️ scaling tips

  • party sized – I LOVE making large batches of homemade soda for events and gatherings. Simply pour 8 ounces out of a 2-liter bottle and add in simple syrup to taste. I find that 8-12 ounces of syrup is perfect for a big bottle. It’s also fun to create your own custom soda labels for 2-liter bottles!

🔆 top tip

If you are new to making sodas at home, start with less syrup, then add more until you find the flavor you like. The nice thing about making your own sodas is that you can make them as flavorful or sweet as you like!

♻️ personalize your Peeps sodas!

Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!

  • club soda – club soda is usually interchangable with soda water or seltzer water. Most manufaturers do add sodium and other minerals to club soda, so be sure you like the taste of the soda on its own. You can of course also experiment with other soda pop like cola, too!
  • cream or milk – add 1-2 ounces of heavy cream, milk, or the dairy alternative of your choice for a cream soda!

🧰 equipment needed

  • glass of choice – make sure to choose a glass with at least a 12-16 ounce capacity, especially if you want to use the whole can of sparkling water. I also love using milkshake glasses, which give a special “soda fountain” vibe!
  • cocktail mixing spoon – a long-handled spoon like a cocktail mixing spoon will help you easily stir your soda without making a mess.
  • straw – I love using festive straws that match my drinks, like these paper straws!
