When you’ve been making homemade cocktails for over a decade, you get a creative itch you just need to scratch every now and then. Homemade infusions are one of the best ways to get creative with your cocktails, because they’re easy to make and really pack a flavor punch. And if you’re even a mild fan of these floofy marshmallow candies, you’re sure to love this vodka infusion!

This recipe was inspired by my other seasonal infused liquors, like this candy corn infused vodka recipe. When Easter rolled around, I just KNEW I needed to peep-i-fy some drinks. 😏 Once you make a batch, you’re ready to make some peep-tinis or even just a peeps & soda! Imagine my surprise to discover that the company who makes peeps ALSO releases them for other holidays, like Halloween and Christmas! So, now there are even more ways to celebrate this once-mildly underwhelming candy!!!

why you need this peep vodka in your life:

🌷 springtime sweet. Peeps are pretty much the official candy of spring. Or Cadbury eggs. Alright, peeps are definitely ONE of the official candies of spring.

🐣 seasonal & celebratory. Sure, Easter isn’t really synonymous with cocktails, but it is a big brunching holiday. And what’s the best part of brunch?! That’s right. Cocktails. 😉 Plus! Peeps pop up around other holidays, too!

🥳 party perfect. This recipe is super simple to scale up for a party. I mean, just imagine the look on your guests faces when you present PEEPS VODKA to them!

🛒 ingredients

A labeled ingredient shot of the ingredients used to make Peeps infused vodka.
  • Peeps marshmallow candies – regular peeps will do for this recipe, so avoid the funky flavors that have been popping up like Dr. Pepper and cotton candy (I’m not kidding 😅). Keep in mind, whichever color peeps you choose will impact your infusion, and refrain from mixing colors if you can.
  • vodka – you’ll need vodka for this recipe, and be sure to choose one you like. If you’re not sure which kind of vodka to pick, check out my post breaking down the ins and outs of vodka! I like using brands like Kirkland Signature, Tito’s or Absolute for infusions. That’s right. Costco brand vodka is actually one of my favorites for infusions!

6: Store your peeps vodka in an airtight bottle in the fridge.

Hint: The sugar content of the peeps will lower the overall alcohol content of the vodka, making it lower in proof than regular vodka. For this reason, it’s best to store your infusion in the fridge.

💡tips & tricks for getting it right

🍽️ serving tips

How and when to serve your peeps vodka:

  • peeps vodka soda – less fancy, but still flavorful. Combine this vodka with soda water and garnish with a peep and a slice of lime! Check the recipe card below for this drink!
  • peep-tini – is there anything more festive than a themed martini?! I think not. This peeps martini uses this vodka as the flavor base, and makes for an excellent Easter brunch cocktail.
  • peeps shooters – serve your vodka shooter style, with a dollop of whipped cream on top!

ℹ️ troubleshooting tips

Infusions are pretty easy to make, but a few things can go wrong. Use these tips to make sure you get it right the first time.

  • quality vodka – while you don’t need to use top shelf vodka, definitely opt to use a vodka you like actually drinking on its own. This will ensure that you end up with a drinkable infusion. 😅
  • too sweet – if your infusion is too sweet, you can add more vodka, 1/4 cup at a time, until it balances out in flavor.
  • not enough flavor – if you want even MORE peep flavor, you can add 1-2 more peeps until it reaches a sweeter, peep-i-er taste. Too many peeps will turn this infusion into a gel in the fridge, though, because of the gelatin in the marshmallows!

🔆 top tip

You can use either bunnies or chicks for your infusion, but keep to one single color of peep. If you mix colors, you will end up with a muddled grey (or even brown) infusion. While it’ll still taste great, it won’t have the wow factor color-wise.

♻️ substitutions & variations

Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!

  • marshmallows – peeps have their own distinct flavor, it’s true! In a pinch though, you can use marshmallows in this recipe.
  • other season peeps – this recipe can be made with any variation of peeps, like the halloween ghosts or pumpkins, or the Christmas stockings!
  • use another liquor – any other clear, relatively unflavored, liquor will work for this infusion. Rum or tequila would work nicely!

🧰 equipment needed & storage tips

  • infusion jar or other airtight storage container – Large glass jars are the best way to infuse liquor! I love using large Weck jars or Ball Canning jars because they have a wide mouth. You can use two smaller jars, or cut the recipe in half if you don’t have a large enough container.
  • fine mesh strainer – a fine sieve is key for separating any remaining particles out of the finished vodka. You can also use cheesecloth if you want to ensure that no sediment remains in the final infusion.

🫙 storage tips

While alcohol is shelf-stable, and so are peeps, once you combine the two, the ABV of the vodka is lowered due to the sugar content. Because of this, it’s best to store your infusion in the fridge, especially if you plan to store it longer-term.

When you store in the fridge, it’ll last you 3-6 months without the flavor degrading. If you store it at room temperature, you’ll want to use it within a week or two.
